Idea name: Design of low-cost paper-based screening test for sickle cell anemia
Tagline: Made in Nepal
Kathmandu

Sickle cell anemia is a disorder of the blood that blocks blood flow through blood vessels caused by inherited abnormal hemoglobin. Sickle cell disease can be kept under control with a proper diet or can be avoided if a proper diagnosis of the parents is done on time. However, sickle cell anemia diagnosis is not easily accessible and there is no Nepalese diagnostic kit available to date. Thus, the team has designed a low-cost paper-based screening kit (medical/ clinical diagnosis). The kit will be easily accessible, economical, effective and will provide prompt results. So far testing of the diagnostic kit has finished and it is in the final optimisation and validation phase.
