Bicycle Saddle Bag (Gurung Jhola)

Gurung Jhola saddle bag is made up of local fabric 'hemp' and 'cotton' minimizing the use of polyester to maximum. The saddle bag is used for cyclists to keep mobile, purse, reusables bags and usually used to keep flat repair kits for bicycles. The saddle bag is placed under the saddle of the bicycle while commuting or traveling. Gurung Jhola Saddle bag is a convenient gear for cyclists.

A Bio briquette is a compressed block of coal dust or other combustible biomass material used for fuel and making fire smokeless which recover gaseous energy demand in rural as well as urban settlement for healthy firing purposes. With the help of briquettes one can easily cook their food or use it for other firing purposes without searching for woods, LPG or electric heater. With the help of briquette making ideas, we can run small industries as well as women groups to get employed in different rural parts of Nepal.

Maha Sansaar

Around 30 percent of the global food supply is pollinated by bees, but 40 percent of bee colonies die every year as a result of climate change, pesticides, diseases, pests, and other risk factors. Without human help, the honeybee species is at risk of going extinct. Saving this population is essential to the global food system. Maha Sansar is the robotic beehive. MahaSansaar applies the same treatments that a beekeeper would using computer vision, robotics, and artificial intelligence. Maha Sansar constantly monitors the bees in its device using AI to identify and address their needs in real-time and without any human intervention. Maha Sansar can feed and water bees, treat illnesses and pests, address climate-related issues with an active climate control system, harvest honey within the device, and prevent 100 percent swarming. MahaSansaar also conducts frame manipulation—95 percent of what beekeepers do to their hives today—including splitting hives, combining hives, and more. The self flow technology of honey from within each hive is the unique invention done in our MahaGhar; which means a home for bees.

Ganoerma infused toothpaste

Ganoderma lucidum –commonly known as Reishi and Lingzhi, or simply ‘Rato Chyaau’ in Nepali is one of the most highly valued medicinal mushroom in the world. Often considered the king of the herbs, Ganoderma is well known for its wide medicinal properties and therapeutic uses. Knowing its high medicinal values, it has been cultivated all over the world to make various medicines and products, though it’s cultivated in very few numbers which still are not utilized to make any kinds of products in Nepal or can be said that the Ganoderma’s medicinal values are less known in Nepal for those who know the medicinal values of Ganoderma, they are well attracted toward its products. Unfortunately, there are no any Nepali Ganoderma based products which leaves the consumers with few options. So, the main objective of our idea is to make end products from the mushroom. We have been successfully growing Ganoderma in our lab- Truffle Research Centre, TU and have collected spores from the Ganoderma and successfully made spawns (seeds). So, we are assured that this project will be a stepping stone for exploring Nepalese market for other Ganderma based products. Thus, we have selected toothpaste to begin with. The raw materials necessary for toothpaste base are easily available and it requires less compliances as compared. As Ganoderma has strong antibacterial activity, the Ganoderma infused toothpaste will be of a great value. Because there are no local or Nepali production companies dealing with Ganoderma products, the locally made will be cost efficient and accessible.

Rice transplanter

The idea is to balance the labor vacuum in the agricultural industry with the introduction of scientific instruments and devices that replenish the eminent labor deficiency and dependency with affordable tools for small farmers.Create income generating tools for small farmers.Generate job opportunity for whose vision coincides with mine. The rice transplanter that I have personally designed and almost completed is a 4 row transplanter using crankshaft mechanism, with self designed clutch and auto mobility. A 6.5 hp petrol engine with peak torque of 13 Nm is installed that comes with 3600 Rpm and is adjustable. The transplanter is self propelled and it will transplant 4 seedlings per cycle, creating an accurate 4×4 matrix of equally spaced seedlings. The transplanter removes the unscientific practice of irregular spacing of seedlings in 8 inch difference with more compact and accurate transplanting creating dense paddy and eventually greater harvest. The transplanter if paced with human walking speed of 5 km/hr can transplant a bigha in 2 hours give or take.

Waste to Wealth

In the 21st century , plastic waste is one of the major problems in this project. We can use plastic waste to generate the heat energy using pyrolysis gasification process and that heat can be utilized to do useful work. We can utilize the heat to generate electricity using steam turbines or using gas generators. The heat can be used to make biochar which is almost similar to fossil coal and the generation of the biochar can be done using local resources like dry leaves , weeds, bamboo and many local resources. The heat can be utilized in brick factories to make bricks instead of wood or coal. This product gives us freedom from MSW (Municipal Solid Waste ) . Also we can utilize the heat output. We are making a machine which can combust plastic and other organic waste into a mineral (Clinker ) . The machine runs on Japanese technology and is currently in the testing phase. In the first phase we are testing using Municipal Solid waste . We are collecting data of emissions, total mass that we combust in hrs. The machine contains Combustion chamber, Retention Chamber, Cyclone Separator, Gas reducer, Mist separator and chimney.

Green Leaf Recycling

The idea is to recycle paper which is quite uncommon in Nepal. Instead of just manufacturing random papers this business will only make papers used in offices, especially banks where most papers are consumed. Also, colleges and schools can be approached for tender where we will provide their students with notebooks and other papers which are recycled. Any business using 100% of our papers will be given a green office tagline which can again be used for their and also our marketing since the environmental effect is an emerging concept that can be a great marketing tool.

Ms. Alka Subedi

Recycling X-Ray films

X-rays, MRI and lithographic film are coated with silver, a rare earth mineral that can be recovered from x-rays for recycling and reuse. The film itself is made of PET plastic, the same that is commonly used for water bottles. The clean PET will also be recycled. Since, every x-ray is coated with a substance that contains silver. Once you are done with your X-rays, that silver is fully recoverable and very valuable. It is definitely in your best interest to recycle your old X-rays when you no longer need them. Not only is it the right thing to do for your wallet and the environment, medical privacy laws require that X-rays be disposed of in a manner that preserves patient privacy.

Solar dryer

This is a simple idea to dehydrate foods like tomato turmeric etc. all the extra food wasted due to lack of transportation can be dehydrated and used for more than 6 months. This product is simply based on black body radiation which is powered by solar energy. Raw foods such as tomato, meats, turmeric etc. are dried in this device by using the principle of black body radiation. We can dry the foods, herbs which can be stored for a long period of time as they are all dehydrated and can also be used in powder forms. Farmers are major target consumers as they can commercialize their products more conveniently at low cost using our device for drying up the food materials to make different kinds of spices, masalas. Dry meat can be produced in a very small amount of time. Our product is time convenient as it uses black body radiation to dehydrate the foods. The dehydrated foods can be stored for a long period of time for long term use.

Mr. Roshan Ojha

Multi Grain Electric Drying Silo

Majority of rural inhabitants solely depend on agriculture for their livelihood. Rice, maize, millet, wheat, barley and buckwheat are the major staple food crops and drying is a major process for post harvesting of the crops. However, almost all of the farmers in Nepal still depend on traditional methods of sun drying. This method is slow and labor intensive and hostile weather conditions directly affect the process thereby making it inconvenient. We will be building a solar dryer that will be fast, efficient and energy cost saving thereby greatly assisting in post crop harvesting. The dryer will have built in features of crop monitoring, humidity, moisture sensors and further advancement in post processing like UV-C treatment. Our product will not only address the storage(volume) but also assure the longevity of the crops processed, preventing it from rotting and killing the microbes by sterilizing the crops through UV treatment.
