Nari Bio-Sanitary Pad

The business idea for Nari Bio-Sanitary Pads was born after learning about health hazards and disposal concerns around industrially manufactured plastic sanitary pads. Nari Bio-Sanitary Pad is a biodegradable, chemical free sanitary pad that does not cause itchiness and skin irritations and decomposes in four to six months, unlike plastic pads which decompose in 500-800 years. Nari Bio-Sanitary pads will be produced from banana pulp and woven clothes and will be manufactured in the terai region by local women.

It aims to produce value added products to increase its demand. Millet is a highly nutritious crop and has more health benefits compared to other alternatives available in the market. Hence, the product is targeted to people who want healthy lifestyles.

There is no ball pen manufacturing unit in Nepal. The idea is to manufacture quality ball pens in Nepal with the aim of creating local employment. The target market for this product are education institutions, public and private sectors. The vision is to reduce the cost incurred due to the import of ball pens.

Reverse Vending Machine (RVM)

The reverse vending machine is an automated machine that takes-in plastic waste, empty aluminum cans, and paper waste and in return provides rewards such as discount vouchers, recharge cards, etc to the users. The machine aims to encourage the public to dispose waste responsibly and contributes to proper waste management at public spaces like malls, temples, airports, bus stops, hospitals etc. The machine is designed and developed in Nepal by RVM Nepal Pvt. Ltd. jointly with National Innovation Centre (Dr. Mahabir Pun). The machine development is complete and is now looking into installing the machines at public spaces.

Conversion of plastic waste into bricks is their main product. The brick helps in reducing 82.56 metric tons of plastic waste generated daily in the Kathmandu valley. These plastic bricks will be used to make houses in the disaster affected areas and are economical for people with low income.

This provides farmers an alternative to chemical pesticides that are biopesticides to eradicate invasive pests such as fall armyworm that causes heavy economic loss to farmers. The use of biopesticide helps farmers tackle problems of pest and environmental pollution with no chemical residue harming soil or plants. Several companies are working on biopesticides but none of them focus on eradicating fall armyworm.

Cashing the Waste

Solid waste management issue in Nepal is huge. Currently the organic and inorganic wastes are mixed and dumped into landfill sites which could have been used productively. The idea is to solve organic waste management problems by turning solid wastes into marketable packaged compost especially vermicompost. This helps solve fertiliser scarcity faced by farmers and also decreases the dependency on imports. Other products of Cashing the Waste include composting kits, earthworms, training and consultation services.

Fun Revolution TV is a media production company that emphasise the quality of their creations through strong screenplays. They make short films, sketch comedy videos, brand endorsement videos, and advertisements. Most of their works are available in their official Youtube channel that is inspired by recent incidents in Nepal and are satirical, humorous and educational. They also conduct acting workshops for interested individuals. The vision is to create a strong and organised film production company.

Design of low-cost paper-based screening test for sickle cell anemia

Sickle cell anemia is a disorder of the blood that blocks blood flow through blood vessels caused by inherited abnormal hemoglobin. Sickle cell disease can be kept under control with a proper diet or can be avoided if a proper diagnosis of the parents is done on time. However, sickle cell anemia diagnosis is not easily accessible and there is no Nepalese diagnostic kit available to date. Thus, the team has designed a low-cost paper-based screening kit (medical/ clinical diagnosis). The kit will be easily accessible, economical, effective and will provide prompt results. So far testing of the diagnostic kit has finished and it is in the final optimisation and validation phase.

BioYaan is Bio-CNG fuel injection hybrid vehicle kit can be installed in any petroleum-powered vehicle so that the vehicle will have a dual fuel mode system. It can start on petrol/diesel and run on BioCNG. This increases life and mileage of the vehicles, reduces dependency on imported fuels and vehicles, and creates a sustainable approach in green mobility. At present, this is in the research phase.

There is a huge market of tutoring in Nepal and finding qualified and credible tutors is difficult. is a web application where users are connected to teachers with various expertise. Users can avail different services through the application such as home tuition, group tuition classes, substitute teacher, teacher recruitment, online tutor, and doubt session. To ensure tutor qualifications, there are a set of steps for verification after which profiles are created that are accessible to users. As of 2019, is live with around 400 profiles.

Wheatgrass and its components have been associated with many health benefits including decreased inflammation, liver detoxification, lower cholesterol, weight loss, killing cancer cells and better sugar control. Wheatgrass is an excellent source of many different vitamins and minerals especially vitamin A, C and E, as well as iron, magnesium, calcium and amino acids. To deliver these health benefits the company produces high quality wheatgrass juice with high focus on quality during the production process from sowing to juice extraction.

Relay Cycle Station will develop an app-based cycle booking system through which users can book a cycle from any center of Relay Cycle Station and leave it at any other center around the destination. This way the individuals get an healthy and eco-friendly alternative means of transportation for their daily commute.

Smart Ghar is an Internet of things (IOT) based smart control device that will help the user to remotely control different electronic devices present in their home or organisation. The vision is to reduce energy consumption and prevent casualties as people tend to forget to switch off their devices when leaving their homes. Smart Ghar allows one to check and control their electronic devices through a mobile application from anywhere, anytime. Smart Ghar system is built in Nepal unlike other imported automation systems, caters to Nepali household’s needs and is easy to customise and repair. They are economical compared to other systems available. The system aims to help old age people and differently-abled people become independent.

The system automates parking spaces using electronic sensors, lights, smart navigation to empty slots, and security systems. The system is completely developed in Nepal hence can be maintained, repaired and customised unlike the other systems available in the market. The system is suitable for parking spaces of malls, hotels, hospitals, airports, etc

Tetra Pak Recycling

The company recycles tetra pak and manufactures products from paper and aluminum extracted. Tetrapak is a material that is 100% recyclable through a simple recycling process and does not require heavy machinery. Started as a personal experiment it has now turned into a business contributing to a decrease in tetra pak wastage. The recycled paper is being used for handicraft purposes, paper bags, certificates, business cards, etc. The aluminum will be used to produce poly aluminum boards from which furniture can be made.

Mr. Kshitiz Thapa is a price comparison digital platform for entertainment activities like holiday packages, adventure and sports events, futsal, hotel, etc. There are 4,700 travel agencies in Nepal with different packages for domestic, outbound, and inbound tourism but it is difficult to compare the different packages. There is an absence of online presence for service providers and both service providers and consumers are victims of hassle to reach one another. helps solve this hassle by connecting the service providers and customers.

Solid Organic Waste Management System

Solid Organic Waste Management System (SOWMS) is a portable digester device that turns solid organic waste from the kitchen to biogas for cooking and manure. SOWMS is cheaper and decreases dependence on LPG and use of nonrenewable resources. It is an environment and cost-friendly innovation that helps manage household waste and turns it into energy. The portable version of SOWMS is being developed at the National Innovation Center (Dr. Mahabir Pun).

The muddy track

The idea is to build dedicated motocross and mountain bike tracks for free rides as well as racing events. There will be provision to rent bikes and gears at the muddy track and recreational restaurants to camp within the facility. This could be a great form of entertainment looking at the rise of the targeted audience who are adventure enthusiasts specially dirt bikers and mountain bike riders.
